Data & sources
This page exists because pre-launch game wikis fail in a specific, predictable way: they present inference as fact, and every page looks equally confident. Here is the grading we use instead, and the complete list of what we refuse to guess at.
Steam store page, SteamDB record, publisher newsroom. Reproduced verbatim where quoted.
Assembled from official framing and trailer material. Labelled reported on every page that uses it.
Our own reasoning, clearly marked. The PC class scale is the only Tier 3 dataset — methodology below.
Primary sources
- Permafrost on Steam — App 2254990 — wishlist, demo, patch notes.
- Toplitz Productions — Publisher — release date announcements and press kit.
- Steam news hub — The weekly "Signal" dev-blog series is posted here.
- Toplitz Discord — Official publisher Discord.
- Permafrost on X — Official account.
- Permafrost on Instagram — Official account.
- SteamDB — Permafrost — Tags, engine, release timestamp (12:00 UTC).
- Steam store API (appdetails) — Used for genres, categories and release string.
The PC class scale (the only editorial dataset)
The PC requirement checker needs parts on a common scale, and no official scale exists beyond the two named tiers. So we anchor a 0–100 scale on the official parts themselves:
- Minimum CPU (i5-8600K / Ryzen 5 350) = 40
- Recommended CPU (i5-12400 / Ryzen 5 5600X) = 70
- Minimum GPU (GTX 1060 6GB / RX 590 8GB) = 40
- Recommended GPU (RTX 3070 Ti 8GB / RX 6750 XT 12GB) = 70
Every other part (36 entries) is positioned on that scale using published relative performance. The checker outputs a comparison against the official tiers, never a frame-rate prediction — a benchmark would require the shipping build, which does not exist yet.
What is deliberately unmeasured
These values are not published by the developer and cannot be inferred. They stay blank until measured in the demo or the Early Access build:
- Warmth, hunger and exhaustion drain rates
- Frostbite thresholds and temperature bands per biome
- Generator fuel type and burn rate
- Item, clothing and weapon stat lines
- Crafting recipe lists and material costs
- Enemy, wildlife and loot tables
- Dog carry capacity and scout radius
- Loot sharing and threat scaling in co-op
Each of these appears as an “unmeasured” block on the relevant page, so the gap is visible rather than papered over.
Correction policy
Errors go on the changelog with the version they were found in. If you spot a value that contradicts something measurable in the demo or launch build, use the contact page — corrections get credited.
