Permafrost vs other survival games

Hinterland Studio

The two coldest games in the genre, compared on what actually differs.

Verdict: The Long Dark is the better game today. Permafrost is the one with co-op and building — which is the combination no cold-survival game has nailed yet.

11 bit studios

Same frozen Earth, opposite scale — one survivor or one society.

Verdict: Different games that share a premise. If you love one you will probably want the other, and they do not compete for the same hours.

Iron Gate AB

The genre-standard co-op builder, versus the cold-first newcomer.

Verdict: Valheim is the safer buy today. Permafrost is the one to watch if the cold-first premise is what you actually want.

RocketWerkz

Timed extraction salvage versus persistent frozen-world survival.

Verdict: Both understand that scavenging is only tense when leaving is a decision. Icarus makes it a deadline; Permafrost makes it a temperature.

Render Cube

The same publisher, two very different winters.

Verdict: The most useful comparison on this list for judging execution risk: it tells you what this publisher is capable of finishing.

DRAGO entertainment

Two winter survival games, one year apart — the most direct comparison available.

Verdict: The single closest thematic match on this list. If Winter Survival is your kind of game, Permafrost is almost certainly on your wishlist already.

Creepy Jar

The deepest survival meter system, in the opposite climate.

Verdict: Green Hell is the benchmark Permafrost should be measured against on systems depth — not on setting.

Unknown Worlds

Cold from the outside in, versus cold from the inside out.

Verdict: Below Zero proves cold works as a core mechanic. Permafrost has to prove it works with four people arguing about loot.
