Reading these tiers
- Minimum and recommended both list 16 GB RAM — the RAM floor is unusually high for the genre.
- 30 GB install size is the only storage figure officially published.
- No Steam Deck / handheld rating has been published yet; treat any handheld claim as unverified.
The 16 GB floor is the headline
Both tiers ask for 16 GB of RAM. For a survival sandbox that is a high floor, and it is the single most likely reason a machine that “should” run the game does not. If you are upgrading for Permafrost specifically, memory comes before graphics.
GPU gap
The jump from a GTX 1060 6GB to an RTX 3070 Ti 8GB is large — roughly three hardware generations. That gap usually means the recommended tier is targeting higher-resolution textures and draw distances rather than a higher frame rate, but the developer has not published target resolution or FPS, so treat that as an expectation rather than a fact.
Handhelds and Steam Deck
No handheld rating has been published. The RAM floor and the recommended GPU tier both suggest a handheld will struggle, but that is inference from the published tiers, not a rating — do not buy on it.
