Tools gate progression: you repair before you can go deeper.

Progression is exploration-gated, and the gate is machinery: repair broken machines and reclaim fragile technology to push deeper.

Generators are the beating heart of any shelter network — heating and life support run off salvaged industrial parts.

Tools therefore sit between scavenging and base building; they convert salvage into survivable territory.

Mechanics that matter

  • Repair first, expand second — a restored shelter is cheaper than a built one.
  • Generators centralise heat; expose them and you lose heat faster.
  • Reclaimed pre-catastrophe technology is the deepest-tier reward.

These values are not published anywhere official. They are listed so you know exactly which questions the launch build answers, and so no one mistakes inference for data:
