Early Access opened on 9 October 2026 at 12:00 UTC. About 34 hours in, the secondary coverage has matured from first-impression posts into regional launches, performance guides, and a review sample large enough to discuss. This page is our filter: what the first wave agrees on, the numbers outlets are quoting, and where the doubt is. None of it is a scored verdict, and none of it belongs on the official timeline — that page stays primary-source only.

What the first wave agrees on
Strip away the headlines and the early coverage clusters around four points that are hard to argue with, because they come straight from the confirmed premise rather than from hands-on scoring:
- The cold is an active antagonist, not a meter. afleurdenet's "Is Permafrost Worth It?" and 2upskill's co-op guide both land on the same idea — temperature degrades movement, stamina recovery and vision, and a collapsed cold-resistance bar leads to frostbite with lingering health penalties. That is the game's identity, and reviewers are reading it correctly.
- The shattered moon is the hook that separates it. The recurring praise is the cosmic-danger beat: moon chunks tearing through the atmosphere as unscripted world events. Multiple writers compared the "sky might murder you" feeling favourably against quieter frozen-survival titles.
- Co-op does not trivialise the threat. This is the most consistent design compliment. 2upskill's breakdown of four-player role-splitting (gatherer, builder, hunter/scout, crafter) notes the world stays lethal regardless of headcount — more survivors simply means more mouths to keep warm. Early coverage treats that as the game's smartest idea.
- The studio is small and the scope is large. afleurdenet identifies SpaceRocket Games as a roughly 15-person Polish team with Toplitz Productions publishing — useful context for setting Early Access expectations.
The numbers outlets are quoting
A few concrete figures are now circulating from post-launch write-ups. We report them as attributed, not as our own measurements:

| List price | $24.99 / £21.99 | igamemag (10 Oct 2026) |
| Launch discount | ~20% off (~$19.99 / £17.59 on Steam) | igamemag; Game Spark via yomimono |
| Discount window | into ~23–24 October 2026 | igamemag (23 Oct); Game Spark via yomimono (24 Oct) |
| Early Access length | at least 12 months planned | igamemag (studio-stated) |
| Dedicated servers | not announced | igamemag |
Steam user reviews: the sample has grown
At launch (13:52 UTC, 9 October) Steam showed just 4 reviews — correctly "too small to read." That is no longer the case. As of 10 October 2026, SteamDB tracks roughly 293 user reviews at "Mostly Positive" (about 72% positive). That is a real, if still Early Access, signal: the survival systems and atmosphere are landing, while the technical roughness is the main drag on the negative share. Our stance holds with one adjustment — we now read the score as a tentative lean-positive rather than noise, but we still will not call it a final verdict until a few patch cycles of play exist and the rating stabilizes. Anyone quoting the old "4 reviews / Mixed" snapshot this week is citing a launch-day artifact, not the current state.
Where the skepticism actually sits
The doubt is not "is it broken" — it is the ordinary Early Access question of whether the volume is finished enough. A Chinese-language write-up (ninecivet, 《永冻纪元》评测) framed it as "currently only worth waiting and watching," praising the frozen-atmosphere direction but refusing to judge real in-build visuals and performance until they are verified. That is a fair, restrained position. The English pieces (afleurdenet, 2upskill) are impression and guide articles, not scored reviews, and lean favourable on premise while staying vague on execution — exactly what you expect before anyone has 30 hours in. A second outlet, Allkeyshop, framed it explicitly as a split decision: buy day one if you enjoy testing complex systems and accept Early Access roughness, wait for patch milestones if you want a polished, complete build. On the technical side, performance is the loudest single complaint — afleurdenet published two separate optimization guides citing Steam hubs and Reddit being flooded with low-FPS and blizzard-stutter reports. None of that is a verdict; it is the normal shape of an Early Access opening week.
Regional signal: Simplified Chinese and the China launch
A China launch write-up (Tencent News / QQ, 10 October 2026) confirms Permafrost ships with Simplified Chinese interface and subtitles, and reports localized pricing: a Standard edition at ¥95.20 (20% off a ¥119 list) and a Companion Edition at ¥109.44 (20% off ¥136.80), with the discount running to 24 October 2026. Steam's own language list corroborates the Chinese inclusion (9 interface languages, 9 subtitle sets, English the only full audio so far). The takeaway for the wiki: the Chinese-speaking audience is a real first-wave cohort, which matters for our own localization and for where future guides should point. We are not republishing Chinese store links as endorsements — only noting the confirmed language support and regional price as facts.
Our read, stated without hedging: the differentiators worth taking seriously are the 30+ hour story floor named by the studio, the co-op design that keeps the cold dangerous, and the cosmic-event hook. The open question is the one every Early Access title carries — does the volume hold up once the novelty of the first whiteout wears off? That answer lands with the first patch notes, not with launch-week impressions.
Our stance
We are not scoring Permafrost yet, and we are not letting a "Mixed" tag from a five-hour-old review sample do it for us. The known-issues page tracks what players are actually hitting; the changelog is where measured values and real reports land first. Come back after the studio's first hotfix wave — that is when a verdict earns its place.
