Axes & Blades
The melee workhorse — chop wood, chop threats, no ammunition to worry about.
Axes and bladed tools are reported as the melee class. They double as utility: an axe is also how you gather, so the weapon and the toolkit are the same object.
In a scarcity world, a tool you already carry for wood is the cheapest self-defence you own.
What Axes & Blades are for
- Dual-purpose: gather and fight with one item, keeping pack weight down.
- The reliable fallback when ammunition runs out — which it will.
- Short range means it is a last-line, not a primary, weapon.
The resource angle
- No consumable cost — the sustainable melee option.
- Tiering probably follows the tool upgrade path (stone → flint → copper → iron).
- — Damage and durability values
- — Whether blades differ from axes in reach
- — Crafting requirements per tier
