Shivs

The improvised blade — cheap, concealable, and the panic button.

Shivs are reported as the improvised close-quarters blade. The point is not that they are good — it is that they are always there, made from whatever you scraped together.

They are the weapon of "I have nothing else": a stopgap that turns a death into a fight.

What Shivs are for

  • The bottom of the melee tier — better than fists, worse than an axe.
  • Likely the easiest to craft from scavenged scrap.
  • A panic option when a close encounter goes wrong and the rifle is empty.

The resource angle

  • Minimal material cost — the disposable option.
  • No maintenance story; replace, don’t repair.
