Dog Companion

Scout, alarm, pack mule — and the reason silence is survivable.

Official: your dog "scouts ahead, warns of danger, carries supplies, and keeps you grounded when the silence gets to be too much".

It is rescued from the ruins, so it is part of progression rather than a start-of-game pet.

Practically it solves three problems at once: vision, warning and carry capacity.
